Creative of the Month:

Jennafer Grace

-How did you become interested in becoming a creative person?

I'm honestly not sure that I had a choice. I know that my grandmother had a huge influence, she loved to keep eclectic creatives as friends. In addition, she was anti-screens in her own way, before that was a thing. I wasn't allowed to watch sitcoms, only old Hollywood films or BBC mystery shows when she felt like doing the same.

So I spent a lot of time drawing the clothes I wanted to make someday - and I often did this in trees. I liked to climb trees with my little notebook and draw clothes. Or watch my dad in his garage, sit in the truck seat drawing dresses while he tinkered and asked me to hand him tools.

After that came jewelry making, selling things at church art fairs. By the time I was 12, I was selling purses and candles at local surf shops. I would redecorate/paint my room at least once per year. My door was collaged with layer upon layer of magazines - staple gunned to my later detriment.

I think I just have the itch. By the time I went to fashion school, the teachers would tell me "you can't make X out of Y fabric"...and I had been making and selling exactly that for years.

-How would you describe your work?

I would describe it as bohemian and joyfully opulent. I have learned that our collection is confidence building and makes people feel excited to express themselves through dress! I am nothing with a blank sheet of paper - I need a fabric or a silhouette in mind to start. A vibe or a cinematic woman to chase in my brain. I love a print on print, a luxurious texture, a feather/fringe/faux fur.

My touch is on every piece - I used to sew them all, then cut them all. Now I develop them all and am so proud to be a job creator in San Diego. All of our items are handmade with love, packaged and shipped with love - worn and styled with the excitement that we get to freaking do this for a living!

-What inspires you and brings you the most satisfaction in doing your creative endeavors?

My clients bring me the greatest gifts with their feedback. When starting out, we all design for that beanpole girl who looks amazing in anything, can wear backless/strapless/etc. And the beanpole/model is a real woman and a real demographic! But she's not the only one.

Nothing makes me happier than the joy and confidence that people of every age/size/gender express about our designs. We have been told that we changed someone's entire experience with clothes, and that stuff will make me cry every dang time.

In addition, we have been lucky enough to be featured in some films, celeb moments and TV shows including White Lotus. As a silver screen loving girl - that is the best feeling in the world.

twitter can suck my dick!
