Wisdom of the Father

By John Edward Marin

When I was a young boy the world seemed so big, so insurmountable. How come we are placed on a rock that is so large that not one of us could ever explore all of its places. Shared consciousness must be the answer, whereas a population is able to experience most of what is tangible and for the most part what we presume is intangible. Meaning that in our imagination we can visualize or feel that which is outside our physical senses . If this is our creative tool, how is it that we do not create the imagined exactly as we imagine it?

Many will never know what their role is in this world. Many will live and die in wonder, many more will not care, they will just go about the daily task of living without imagining anything, seeing life as immutable, unchangeable. Never knowing the harm they have done, or the greatness they have achieved by even existing. This is ignorance, and for them, this may be bliss.

Some on the other hand will take life seriously, imagining they have a great role to play, and thus will begin to seek validation for their ideas. They will conjure scenarios that do not need to be conjured, nor experienced, and will throw out of balance the environment they live in. Their importance on display for the world to see. Other people who equally feel as important but lack the power and skill to manifest their own reality will live in a state of envy of the aforementioned.

Reacting to these entities and becoming angered, depressed and eventually disempowered by their own lack of self determination.  A great many will observe these people and be swayed, much like the oceans, ebbing and flowing back and forth with their feelings about the others, and will give their power away to both, due to their empathic nature.

Which one of these people am I? What am I capable of? I wonder if I have the drive and determination to force creation, or am I better suited to be the ignorant type. Nah, I can’t be like that, I feel too much, and have too many ideas, I want to explore, but does that mean I am contributing to the manifestation of others' intent, out of envy for their hubris, or lack of self determination?

One sunny day while practicing my guitar, I stopped playing.  I was outside on the veranda, and my father was in the kitchen. He must have noticed I had stopped practicing and came out to see if I wanted something to eat. He noticed I was in deep thought, and he approached me and  asked. “Rico”, which is what he called me, instead of Richard, his name, as I was a junior, “are you hungry? I can make you a sandwich.” then he paused, took a long look at me, and continued. “ You look as if you are in deep thought. What could possibly be occupying your mind so strongly on such a beautiful day?”

I explained to him what I was thinking about, and he listened intently, as he always does, taking a seat across from, and resting his coffee down on the edge of the flower planter that he had made with his own hands. He was such a creative man, and he always seemed so happy when he was making things. “Son, everyone has these thoughts, well at least those of us who want to make more of our lives than to just be useful idiots. The key is in your hands. Your guitar! And in your voice, you have such a beautiful voice. You can create the world you want to see, and make the world a better place, but you don’t have to force it on anyone. You just Imagine what the world can be and put it into song, and sing it,” he said with a warm smile..

“This is how you bring your life-force energy into the mix, your goal is to let your heart shine and allow others to feel your frequency, to harmonize with your unique creativity. This is how you change the world and experience all the aspects of your own reality. This is what you are capable of. When I listen to you play it brings me so much joy, even when the notes aren’t perfect…Now, I can tell when your heart isn’t in it too, when you are thinking too much, and trying to impress, or perform. If you play and sing, because you love to do it. The world will respond”

So, now as I stand on stage ready to sing, I remember my father’s words and a great excitement fills me, as the first sounds come from my guitar.
